A phobia is an intense and unwanted fear about a situation, event, or object. It can come on quickly or be something you live with almost constantly. A phobia may have a significant impact on your life and how you live it. You might go to great lengths to avoid the object or situation of concern.
A phobia can be very frustrating to live with. However, phobias are not located in your rational thinking. Rather they are imprinted in the subconscious part of your mind. Hypnotherapy (hypnosis) addresses this subconscious part of your mind. Hypnosis and hypnotherapy can therefore be extremely effective at reducing, and in many cases, completely eliminating phobias.
Common phobias include social phobia, fear of open public spaces, fear of vomiting, public transport, heights, blushing, driving, needles, flying, spiders, fear of holes, and confined spaces – claustrophobia. You may have a fear which is similar to a phobia, for example, a fear of commitment, exams, the future, illness, being alone, or other fears which have begun to increase anxiety or restrict your life in some way.
In the safety and calm of the consulting room, hypnotherapy will help you address and change the exaggerated fear response that your subconscious sends out when faced with the object or situation.
The good news is that, for most phobias, hypnotherapy can provide long-term relief of your anxiety in a short period of time. Most phobias are cleared after one to three sessions.
