What are the benefits of hiring a Life Coach?

What are the benefits of hiring a life coach?

Most people expect a successful career, financial stability, happy family life, and all their dreams fulfilled.  But many get lost along the way and struggle to make a change due to a lack of self-belief. They often make poor choices and fail to take action leaving them frustrated and unhappy. This happens when they don’t have a clear vision for the future, don’t understand their purpose in life, or don’t have a life coach to guide them.

What you often find is people make plans to die. They leave a will and in some cases plan all the details of their own funeral. As sad as it is to think about death, even sadder is not thinking about how you will live. How many people who make a will have a plan for living an intentional life? Not many!

Here is an overview of why you should consider hiring a life coach.

What is the Purpose of Hiring a Life Coach?

Some people think to hire a life coach there must be something wrong with you. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Consider all the highly successful people who have a coach in their lives. It might be a personal fitness coach, a sports coach, a wellness coach, a business coach, or a life coach. The purpose of hiring a life coach is to work in partnership with you to help you reach their potential across the facets of life that are important to you.

Just as professional sports coaches work with players on the technical and psychological aspects of their performance, a life coach works with you to uncover your strengths and unique abilities and work together to help you achieve your personal goals and aspirations.

The purpose of life coaching is to enable and empower you to take responsibility for your life and keep you accountable for taking a structured and disciplined approach to personal development. Their role is to help unlock the answers that already exist within you to connect with your own path in life. This requires you to become consciously aware of your vision, your own life’s purpose and requires you to commit to the process.

Does Life Coaching Really Work?

There are plenty of statistics that prove the effectiveness of life coaching. A survey conducted by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) identified the four top benefits of Life Coaching.

  1. 80% of clients surveyed said it improved their self-confidence
  2. 73% of clients stated coaching improved their relationships
  3. 72% of clients improved their communication skills
  4. 70% of clients saw that coaching improved their work performance
  5. 67% of clients saw a notable improvement in work-life balance
  6. 61% of clients improved the management of their business
  7. 57% of clients saw improvement in their time management skills

Leading yourself and developing a purpose in life is the foundation upon which you can live the life of your choosing. Here are six ways life coaching can benefit you.

1. A Life Coach Helps Guide You Towards Your Goals

Have you ever walked into a maze? It can be confusing. This way or that? You decide to go in one direction only to be confronted with a dead end. You go in another direction to find it’s a blind alley. Eventually, you realize you may need help finding your way out of the maze. Once you’re safely out, it’s surprising to learn how simple the solution was.

Some people spend their life in a maze where they become so lost in their own world, they find it difficult to discover a way forward. Often, they don’t realize they’re lost, until someone points it out to them and puts them on the right track.

A life coach helps you guide you out of that maze and sets you up for success. They help you plan to live an intentional life starting with your vision, values, and goals.

2. A Life Coach Uncovers Your Blind Spots

When you become lost in a metaphorical maze and don’t know what the solution is, it’s usually because you haven’t yet mastered any form of self-reflection. Like most people you have blind spots you are unaware of.

A blind spot is something others know and see in your behavior you can’t see yourself. It might be something as simple as having one bad habit you are oblivious to that stunts your growth and causes you to fail in business. Perhaps you are a poor leader or manager and have no concept of how your employees and customers view you. You might be a lousy spouse or parent and have no idea how you are contributing to a breakdown in the relationship. Possibly it could be that your peers at work didn’t like working with you, therefore, inhibiting your career opportunities and you had no concept this was happening.

Unless you are prepared to confront your blind spots, you will never know what is holding you back. Feedback can be confronting and given the wrong way can very hurtful. With the safety of a Life Coach to support you, they help you confront how others see you in a way that is helpful and constructive. They take away the personal and help you uncover the barriers to success.

3. A Life Coach Provides Unbiased Feedback and Support

A life coach is there to give you unbiased feedback and support.

A family member or a friend is not always the best person to go for advice. While they have your best interests at heart, they often stop you from pushing the limits because they either don’t want to see you get hurt or they don’t believe in your goals. Their lack of support has nothing to do with your potential, it has everything to do with their own limitations and personal biases.

A life coach is there to explore your ideas and draw out your strengths. They are also there to help break through your limitations and build self-belief. Their feedback is always in the form of questions that allow you to take a deep dive into your own motivations and give you the support you need by keeping you accountable for your actions and results.

4. A Life Coach Helps You Form New Habits

“The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.” – Samuel Johnson

We all have habits – some we are aware of and some we are not. Some habits are good and contribute to successful outcomes, some habits don’t. The problem with habits is people are often unaware of the habits that are holding them back or if they are aware, they don’t know how to change them. For instance, some people have a bad habit of procrastinating and they don’t know why.

What a life coach can do is help you identify the habits that are serving you well and change the habits that aren’t. It takes commitment to change a bad habit which is where a good life coach will keep you accountable for your results.

Remember a Life Coach will push you to places you didn’t know you could go and pushes to places you would not go on your own.

5. A Life Coach Helps You Create a Vision for the Future

We all have dreams in life, but very few people are able to turn their dreams into reality.

Having a vision for the future is one of the most critical components of success and the one thing most people fail to realize, instead, they focus on their goals.  Goals in isolation don’t work, they need to tie to a greater vision to have the power and impact to motivate you to get out of bed each day and pursue your dreams.

The reason goals don’t work in isolation is that if you compare this to a jigsaw puzzle, goals are random pieces inside the puzzle. Yes you can put together small sections of the puzzle with individual goals, what’s missing is the overall picture of how you want your life to look like in a few years’ time. Your vision and values are the pieces that border the puzzle and the missing pieces in the middle that bring the overall picture into focus. Living life without a vision is like a jigsaw with missing pieces. It’s not as satisfying as when you put the whole picture together.

6. A Life Coach Increases Your Confidence Levels

Everyone has a different concept of what confidence means in their life. While you might be confident in one area, you may lack confidence in others. Confidence is relative to learning, education, and mindset and is often a product of self-esteem formed through everything you have experienced in your life to date.

We all view the world through our own set of glasses where some are rosy and clear and others dark and hazy. Regardless of your inner beliefs most of which are a result of your formative years, these can be changed and you can gain confidence. Confidence is about rewriting the script where you increase the level of belief in yourself, this is where a Life Coach helps you.

Why Learn?

Learning to lead, learning to run a business is no easy task. It takes time and education to transform yourself into the leader you want to be. It all starts with learning how to hire and manage people. It is your communication and people skills that separate the wheat from the chaff.

To find out how you stack up as a leader. You never know what others see that you don’t see yourself. This kind of feedback is not always negative, perhaps you have great attributes and talents you weren’t even aware of.

Let’s dive in…

What is a life coach?

A life coach is a person that works in partnership with an individual to help them reach their potential across all facets of life.

Just as a professional sports player has a coach to work on the technical and psychological aspects of their performance, everyday people should take a structured and disciplined approach to personal development and betterment.

An accredited life coach plays this role.

What does a life coach do?

A life coach works with coaching clients to help them make improvements in their lives and move out of their stuck states. A life coach assumes that the client has the knowledge within themselves to make the improvements and the coach works more as a facilitator than as a counselor.

What are the benefits of life coaching?

Below are 33 examples that show why life coaching has become a mainstream industry.

#1. Improved self-confidence

study by the International Coaching Federation (IFC) discovered that 80% of people who hired a life coach reported an improvement in self-confidence.

#2. A different perspective

We are often consumed by our own opinions, life experiences, and way of thinking. A life coach can provide a new and often helpful perspective on things.

#3. Heightened self-awareness

Being fully aware of your impact on others and recognizing your flaws, strengths, and unique personality attributes is an extremely challenging adventure. This is the art of self-awareness.

Self-awareness requires a strong capacity for introspection and reflection, something which a life coach can help you work towards. In fact, one study found that 67.6% of coaching clients experience a higher level of self-awareness.

#4. Create a balanced life

The concept of life balance is different for everyone, but it often refers to a happy, peaceful, and harmonious relationship between your physical and cognitive being, as well as the major areas of life.

One of the benefits of a life coach is to identify what balance looks like for you and define action steps to achieve more balance in your life.

#5. Foster better relationships

Relationships are the glue that combines individuals with society and provides shared fulfillment in life. From marriages to friendships and beyond, strong relationships are a critical contributor to happiness.

According to the same ICF study mentioned previously, 73% of people who hired a life coach improved their relationships.

#6. Achieve goals

We all have dreams in life, but very few people crystalize these aspirations into tangible goals to systematically accomplish. A major benefit of life coaching is being able to define your life goals and create a concrete, doable plan to achieve them.

#7. Find happiness

True happiness is somewhat of a mystical experience and for most people, it’s hard to imagine a life that is forever happy. At the end of the day, happiness is intrinsic, it’s a feeling that is unique to the way you feel inside.

By defining life goals, creating balance, and committing to a better version of yourself with the aid of a life coach, you open up the prospect of finding happiness. Helping others find happiness is one of the main reasons people become a life coach.

#8. Discover clarity of purpose

Are you clear on what your purpose in life is? Again, this is a very individual and internal fire that burns within. It’s your passion, dreams, skills, and weaknesses all bundled into one.

It’s your direction in life. Clarity of purpose is vital if you want to pursue your dreams, a life coach can assist you in creating this focus.

#9. Do what you love

Finding that one thing you love more than anything else and doing it every day is a large contributor to happiness and satisfaction. Having clarity of purpose unlocks insights into what this may be. This is another one of the many benefits of a life coach in your corner.

#10. Follow through on commitments

Hiring a life coach is about more than just getting advice and guidance, it also creates accountability. You will have an ally that holds you to your word and ensures those goals get pursued and projects are completed.

#11. Discover your best self

Many of us spend too much time comparing ourselves to others and focussing on what we perceive to be our flaws. Discovering your best self is one of the priceless benefits of life coaching.

#12. Determine your strengths and weaknesses

A life coach will take an impartial view of your strengths and weaknesses, helping you understand your areas of greatest opportunity.

#13. Be open-minded

To be open-minded you need to appreciate that there are different ways of doing things and varying perspectives on life other than your own. A life coach can provide the perspective and thinking process required to adopt this mind-set.

#14. Unlock potential

Many of us have latent potential that is hidden by prejudice or closed-mindedness. Life coaches unlock this potential by opening you up to alternate ways of thinking and creating clarity for your direction in life.

#15. Improve communication

72% of people who hire a life coach improve their communication skills, according to the IFC study mentioned above.

#16. Manage time and productivity

Everyone has the same amount of time in the day, but some people use those 24 hours more efficiently than others. Working with a life coach can help you better manage your time, set priorities, and get more done.

#17. Eliminate negative thoughts

As well as looking at the positive aspects of life, such as your purpose, goals, and potential, life coaches are armed with a series of techniques that can help you eliminate or reduce negative thoughts that hold you back.

#18. Overcome your fears

By minimizing negative thoughts and embracing your strengths you can start to overcome fears that have been restricting your ability to achieve your dreams.

#19. Unearth creativity

You can work with a life coach to brainstorm ideas and unearth creativity that is sitting dormant in the depths of your subconscious.

#20. Provide a different outlook on life

Being open-minded, self-aware, and considering a new perspective on life will give you a more positive and well-rounded outlook.

#21. Produce higher income

The skills you develop while working with a life coach will focus your resources while pursuing career goals or growing your business to new heights. This is one of the key benefits of coaching in a business environment.

#22. Eliminate bad habits

When bad habits are embedded in our day-to-day life, they diminish our ability to perform. Working with an impartial third party will help you determine what these habits may be and learn to eliminate them.

#23. Be aware of your values

Our values are those deeply held principles that influence our behavior and motivate us to do things both large and small. Given the sheer influence of life values on every action, being aware of what they are can revolutionize the way we live and perform.

#24. Alignment of strengths with decisions

A strengths-based approach to personal development focuses on the positive inner resources of an individual to make changes. This is in contrast to traditional methods that focus on identifying weaknesses and trying to improve those areas.

#25. Stay motivated: One of the most sought after benefits of life coaching

Setbacks and roadblocks can derail the best of us. One of the most sought-after benefits of life coaching is to sustain discipline and maximum effort during challenging times. You’ll likely discover pockets of inspiration and hunger that you never knew existed.

#26. Better decision making

Despite thinking that we act rationally, most people make decisions based on emotion or entirely subconscious processes. With a deeper understanding of how the mind works, you can reframe the process of decision-making so that it becomes simpler and wiser.

For example, an NLP-trained life coach will be well-versed in the NLP Decision Making Strategy, a theory that incorporates visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic (touch) senses and how they influence our decisions.

#27. Show empathy

To be empathetic you need to see and feel the world through the lens of someone else, put yourself in their shoes, and be understanding of their situation. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same capacity to show empathy towards others.

A life coach can help you look beyond your personal needs and provide in-the-moment techniques for showing empathy.

#28. Learn to accept criticism

If you’ve ever been to a job interview it’s likely that you have been asked how well you take feedback from others. While most people would like to think that they are open and willing to accept feedback or criticism, in the heat of the moment their emotions take over.

An emotional reaction can result in a less than perfect impact on the person providing the feedback, who may just be trying to help you. Learning to accept criticism is a powerful life skill to develop and one of the benefits of life coaching.

#29. Show more appreciation

Showing appreciation and gratitude is a core component of fostering relationships. It makes people feel good about the impact they have on your life – be that in a corporate environment or socially.

A life coach understands the importance of appreciation and has the tools to help you use it more effectively in your day-to-day life.

#30. Build rapport

Rapport is a connection between individuals or a group that enables those people to interact and communicate effectively. For most of us, rapport is seen as an uncontrollable force that we either have with someone or we don’t.

However, creating rapport with others can actually be an intentional and structured process that a life coach can assist you with.

#31. Improve physical well-being

Life coaches can offer more than just emotional and psychological support. They can also work with you to create and execute a plan for improving your physical well-being or losing weight. A healthy body often results in a healthy mind too.

#32. Reduce stress

Stress is a common occurrence for a large portion of the population. Financial burdens, career-related issues, or personal relationship problems can result in mental instability and stress-related health concerns. Life coaches have access to relaxation techniques, such as NLP, which can reduce the mental habits causing stress in your life.

#33. Decreased depression and anxiety

Depression and anxiety are society-wide health problems with a number of complex elements, none of which are an easy to fix. However, having an ally in your corner who understands your triggers can result in an improved way of dealing with the symptoms of these mental health issues.

Benefits of Life Coaching – Conclusion

To be happy is a different proposition for everyone. But one thing is for sure, if you are clear on your purpose, eliminate negativity from your life, and have the tools and techniques to build meaningful relationships, happiness and fulfilment are achievable.

In fact, they are more than achievable – all you need is a framework for determining your direction in life and an ally to help you get there. This is your life coach.

How nutrition can help your emotional health

“Let food be thy medicine,” Said Hippocrates of Kos around 2500 years ago. His ancient wisdom feels so accurate right now. The western world is suffering from an epidemic of obesity and so many diseases. What has changed over the years of his wisdom? Perhaps we have become victims of our own greed. Greed for food, money, sex and so much more. A simple yet unknown cure can be the food that you put in your mouth.

Not only food can change your body’s microbiome but also mess your hormones and that can lead to a lot of issues. Your emotional well-being is connected to the food that you eat. We now know that our brain is connected to our gut through many nerves and it is in constant communication 24/7, we now call it the second brain.

Anxiety, depression, ADHD, hyperactivity, chronic fatigue syndrome, and brain fog are only a few of the many mental conditions that people complain and the food that we eat plays a big role in that.

For thousands of years, we knew that we have to respect the earth and its living beings, the greed of big corporations and the TV commercials have let us believe that meat, fish, and dairy its a big part of the human’s diet and should be consumed daily. Fast forward not more than 100 years we see the results of this.

I am not a doctor and this only my personal opinion that we should consume more plant-based whole foods in our daily life. Real foods that we can recognize with our eyes and taste always with respect to the environment.

Through my life coaching technique, a diet is one of the first things we address, and always try to make changes to fit individuals’ needs and improve their energy, mood, and overall wellbeing. Once you start eating the foods that you were supposed to eat, your life will change drastically and effortlessly for the better. To be a better human being it is not only enough to change some bad habits but it is important to understand and educate ourselves first and see the bigger picture. Everything has to be balanced in order for you to be balanced.

With love and gratitude,

Socrates and Life Coaching

Socrates was using the power of Life Coaching 2400 years ago. The Socratic questioning method was what we call today Life Coaching. The power of questioning and challenging. Socrates often was referring to Xenophon that, he was getting guidance from a higher source. People visited him to get answers, Socrates never knew the answer but during the process of his method, the answers were coming either to him or the other person who was getting the challenge. So inspiring!!

Natural ways to promote relaxation

We have been living in very busy environments the recent years. No doubt that it has an effect on our mental health often. We usually are unable to release the tension and our muscles feeling tight. If that is something you can relate to. I have some tips that worked for me personally and for others.

  1. Try some meditation or breathing exercises. Diaphragmatic breathing has shown an effect to promote relaxation and it is very easy to follow!
  2. Add Peppermint tea to your day. Peppermint leaves have smoothening effects on our digestive tract and can help promote relaxation!
  3. Reduce the amount of coffee, or just stick to the morning coffee. It is no surprise that high amounts of caffeine can have a negative impact on our nervous system. Reduce the amount of stick to a tea for a better mood and less anxiety.
  4. Avoid overeating and try to eliminate white sugar from your diet! Sugar is addictive and we tend to overeat. Also try to avoid processed carbohydrates like white flour, bread, pizzas, etc. When we overeat our body works hard to digest and has an impact on our mood.
  5. A good night’s sleep is a MUST to your overall health and wellbeing. An adequate amount of sleep between 7-9 hours shows the optimal effect on the health of individuals. People who are sleep-deprived usually are a lot more anxious and make easy mistakes. Your judgment is also impaired. So stick to your routine and look for no less than 7 hours of sleep every night.
  6. Go for a Walk! Walking in nature can drop dramatically the amount of stress in our bodies and also promotes digestion. Walk for a minimum of 20 minutes every day for optimal results.
  7. Practice gratitude in your life. It is not easy if you never did but it has an overall impact on your wellbeing! Try to look for the positives in everything that has happened in your life. Keeping a journal and writing also helps.
  8. Smile! Smiling to people and keep a positive attitude makes a huge difference to your health! Your mood will lift and you will feel completely out of anxiety!

That’s it for now! Keep the routine and you will see amazing benefits into your life.
